Seasonal Care Guide for Dogs

Every season brings new challenges for our pets. From the harsh summer heat to the wet monsoon months & cold winter winds, our dogs need different types of care throughout the year. With my pet Bruno, I noticed how his mood, energy levels, skin health, & diet needs change as seasons shift.

So, I created a complete Seasonal Care Routine, & in this guide, I’m sharing everything I personally follow to keep Bruno healthy, comfortable, & active all year long.

☀️ 1. Summer Care: Keeping Bruno Cool & Hydrated

Summer can be tough for dogs due to high temperature, dehydration, & risk of heatstroke. Here’s what I do for Bruno during summer months:

A. Keep Him Hydrated

  • I keep two water bowls in different corners of the home.
  • Add ice cubes on very hot days.
  • Give coconut water twice a week (vet-approved).

B. Cooling Foods I Give Bruno

  • Watermelon cubes
  • Cucumber
  • Curd
  • Homemade chicken broth
  • Electral water once in a while (only if dehydrated)

C. Paw Care

Hot roads can burn paws. Bruno never walks outside between 12 PM – 5 PM. I apply paw balm daily.

D. Summer Bathing Routine

  • Bath once every 10-12 days
  • Medicated shampoo to avoid itching
  • Cooling wipes after outdoor walk

🌧️ 2. Monsoon Care: Protecting Bruno from Infections & Wet Paws

Monsoon looks beautiful, but it’s the worst season for fungal infections, ticks, & stomach issues.

A. Paw Cleaning After Every Walk

Bruno often gets wet paws, so I :

  • Wash his paws with warm water
  • Dry fully with a towel
  • Apply anti-fungal powder (if needed)

B. Keep His Ears Dry

Monsoon increases ear infection chances, especially for floppy-eared dogs. I clean Bruno’s ears every 3-4 days using a vet-recommended ear cleaner.

C. Prevent Ticks & Fleas

  • Use tick collar
  • Spot-on treatment once a month
  • Check paws, belly, neck daily

D. Monsoon Diet I Follow

  • Light meals
  • Avoid raw food
  • Add a little turmeric for immunity
  • Probiotics for better digestion

❄️ 3. Winter Care: Keeping Bruno Warm, Comfortable & Active

Winters make dogs lazy, stiff, & hungry. This is how I manage Bruno in cold weather:

A. Keep Him Warm

  • Soft sweater indoors
  • Blanket at night
  • Avoid cold floor – give warm mat

B. Increase Healthy Fats in Diet

Bruno’s winter meals include:

  • Boiled egg
  • Chicken broth
  • Fish oil supplement
  • Mutton (occasionally)

C. Skin & Coat Care

Winter dryness can cause flaky skin. I apply:

  • Virgin coconut oil (little amount)
  • Omega-3 supplement

D. Joint Health

Cold weather stiffens joints, so I give Bruno glucosamine once a day (vet-suggested).

🍲 4. Bruno’s Seasonal Diet Plan (Summer · Monsoon · Winter)

Each season needs different foods. Here’s what I follow.

🌞 Summer Diet

  • Watermelon
  • Curd
  • Chicken rice
  • Cucumber
  • Apple
  • Coconut water

🌧️ Monsoon Diet

  • Probiotics
  • Turmeric
  • Steamed chicken
  • Brown rice
  • Sweet potato

❄️ Winter Diet

  • Boiled eggs
  • Chicken liver (once a week)
  • Fish oil
  • Mutton curry without spices
  • Warm goat milk (occasionally)

🧼 5. Seasonal Grooming Routine

SUMMER:

  • Bath every 10-12 days
  • De-shedding brushing
  • Paw balm daily

MONSOON:

  • Check skin folds
  • Quick towel dry after walk
  • Anti-fungal shampoo if needed

WINTER:

  • Avoid frequent baths
  • Brush daily to keep coat soft
  • Moisturize paws & nose

✔️ 6. Seasonal Health Checklist (For Every Dog Parent)

This is the checklist I follow every month for Bruno:

✓ Vaccination up to date
✓ Deworming every 3 months
✓ Tick treatment every month
✓ Skin inspection weekly
✓ Keep backup medicines
✓ Hydration monitor
✓ Regular vet check-up

Every season brings its own challenges, but with the right routine, our dogs stay healthy & happy. These seasonal care tips have helped me maintain Bruno’s energy, shiny coat, & strong immunity throughout the year.

I hope Bruno’s routine helps other dog parents take better care of their furry babies. Our pets depends on us – let’s give them the care they deserve in every season.
